TRIP TO IPOH--- MURAL TRAIL

During October 20 to 22 October 2018 our lectures brought my whole classmates and I to Ipoh, Perak to have site visitation for our final project. Ipoh is a nice town to visit and there's so much things to eat and visit to. We are to investigate on our selected trail with our respective group, those trail are food trail, mural trail, intermediate trail and sekeping trail and I was selected to investigate mural trail with my respective group. On the first day of the trip, we had the whole free day to walk around Ipoh and had a good rest so that to prepare for the second day's activities. On the second day, after having site visit me and my group mates went to find murals like looking for treasure at Ipoh and we found that Ipoh is really a beautiful town with lots of beautiful and peaceful murals.

In 2014, Ernest Zacharevic headed to Ipoh, the state capital of Perak, he took a month to paint eight murals in Ipoh Old Town, in a collaboration with local chain Old Town Coffee. Those 8 murals are Paper Plane, Old Uncle Drinking Coffee, Hummingbird, ‘Kopi' Break, Bag of Coffee, Trishaw, Evolution, and Girl. Unfortunately, we only found out 3 out of 7 of his painting which are Trishaw, Old Uncle Drinking Coffee and Paper Plane.

Trishaw

Trishaw, like many of his better-known murals in Penang, is 3D interactive and has a rickshaw frame mounted to the wall. Depicting a hard-working Ipoh local, it’s also known as ‘Street Art is Rubbish’. This mural shows a man making a living in the town of Ipoh by stacking black plastic bags containing rubbish or recyclable items onto a trishaw.

Old Uncle Drinking Coffee

The mural shows a portrait of an old uncle drinking coffee. It’s located nearby the famous franchise OldTown White Coffee eatery facing the Ipoh Field.

Paper Plane

Nearby the first mural, just walk further down the road from Oldtown White Coffee and the Paper Plane mural can be seen. It shows 2 children enjoying their childhood with a paper plane.

Other Street Art In Ipoh Old Town

Since Ernest’s visit, Ipoh has well and truly caught the street art bug and we found plenty of street art by other artists, many of them local to Ipoh, all over the old town. Here are some that we found out when we walking around Ipoh Old Town....
