PROJECT 3: RESEARCH COCOON

This project started with looking for a suitable site for us to place our cocoon at National Botanical Garden at Shah Alam. I went with few of my friends and I found a site near a lake which is very shady and windy as there are many trees surrounded. The tree branches of the tree of the site gave me an idea links to orchid, so I chose orchid to be my inspiration of the cocoon Below are pictures of the site:

SITE ANALYSIS

STRUCTURE OF ORCHID

I started to do more research about orchid and I found that orchid can used to make soap and the interesting part of the orchid is the curving outer shape, so I focus more on the curving part of it.

RESEARCHER AND ACTIVITIES

There is one major activities and three minor activities of my researcher, Ms. Orchid. The major activity is doing experiment and observing the plant in laboratory and the minor activities are sleeping, eating and dancing. The activities I chose are doing experiment, sleeping and eating so I'm going to have 3 areas in the cocoon.

MOCK-UP

First

This is my first mick-up and I was trying to combine the shape of the leaves and petals of the orchid but seems like it doesn't bring out too much characteristics of the orchid.

Second

So, I made the second one which contains the characteristics of the orchid which is the curving part. Then I slowly developed it into the last mock-up.
