VISUAL SEMIOTIC
-Semiotic is the study of signs and codes, signs that are used in producing, conveying and interpreting messages and the codes that govern their use.
- In semiotic theory, a sign is anything that stand for something else. That is , a sign stands for an object or concept.
Example of signs:

-Semiotics is a theory which was initially introduced by Ferdinand de Saussure, Ferdinand saw a sense of purpose that comes when there is an association relationship between the form of a marker with an idea. Marker is a meaningful sound or graffiti which is a mental picture or concept.
-Semiotics, meaning the use of communication through signs and symbols, is used for many different things. A good example of this would be traffic signs.
CORNERSTONE OF MODERN EMIOTICS
- Study of linguistics- historical usage of language
-In the search of meaning- linguists look to the origins of language. If so, the nature of thought could be found in language as well
- In the early stage, linguistics was an attempt to explain signs by imagining them as descriptions of a series of gestures, actions
- Saussure himself was concerned with the study of historical languages and had a particular interest in the comparative grammar of Indo- European languages, particularly Sanskrit
THEORY
-The word theory stems from the Greek word' theoria'
-To reflect, observe, view; dictionary describes it as a system of things, explanation of abstract principles whether in science or art
-It can be speculative or deductive or based on specific hypothesis
-It can also be based on evidence and data
